400 years later

In what seemed like a strange rewrite of history, the Tower Hamlets Council burned down Parliament last night. Well, they also burned Guy Fawkes at the same time. It was actually pretty cool and I can say that burning down a big structure is way more exciting to watch than fireworks. The whole energy and unpredictability seems to be different, feeling your face burning from the heat and the moments where the tower finally falls after burning for a while.

But yeah, it was strange because the structure they had was how it looks now, which seems to be largely Victorian and not like how it would have looked in 1605. And then that they burned both it (which didn't happen in 1605) and burned Guy (which also didn't actually happen then either). But in light of all the terrorism, it seemed strange that they would change the story like this. I was thinking, you know, it would never happen in the US. I was trying to think what it would be like and the closest I could come up with is if there were commemorations of the British burning down Washington DC in the war of 1812.

But still, fire, that was cool.
